Etienne Baldès planted the vineyard in 1830. His descendant, Jean-Luc Baldès, now runs the property - the eighth generation at the head of the estate. Its 175 acres (70 ha) stretch between the bends of the River Lot in a lovely green setting near Puy l'Evêque. Its silicious clay or clay-and-limestone soil is ideal for the production of high-quality wines.

The Malbec grape is grown on 70% of the surface while tannat for the red wines, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and viognier for the sought-after Cahors white wines share the remaining 30%.

Jean-Luc Bladès makes high-end wines he considers have the "Classed Growths status". His range includes:

- New Black Wine
- Probus
- Clos Triguedina and Le Petit Clos
- The innovative range of Moon Wines : Le Malbec du Clos, Le Rosé du Clos et le Moelleux du Clos.

Encouraged by his wife Sabine, born in Burgundy, Jean-Luc Baldès has been "working for the past 10 years or so on a new project for evaluating his terroirs, along the burgundian pattern", as stated in his recent press release. During the 2007 harvest, he isolated three different plots, Au Coin du Bois, Les galets and Les Petites Cailles and vinified each of them separately, producing 3 different wines. Those experimental wines will be released in November 2009.

Wed, 25 Feb 2009 10:56:09 +0100 http://french-malbec.com/archives/236-guid.html Clos triguedina Jean-Luc et Sabine Baldès Moon Wines
