Last week, he was traveling to Cahors to taste the wines of the Durou family at Château de Gaudou. En route to Cahors, our blogger stopped to have lunch with his uncle and aunt - very creative people and, as you'll read the menu, talented cooks as well. The meal was shared over a great bottle of wine: "We drank a 2006 Château de Gaudou Grande Lignée, a Malbec/Merlot blend that had been aged in oak barrels to give it heft and add some complexity. Very young and tight, this needed to be coaxed out of the glass before offering rich, dark fruits and an elegant mouthfeel. Lovely with the food."

But, of course, the important moment of the trip was the tasting at Château de Gaudou. "Returning to the domaine, we found Fabrice pumping over the 2008 Tradition, Grande Lignée and Renaissance. He took a moment to pull us over to the tank with the 1733, his entry wine, a 100% Malbec focusing mainly on freshness rather than power or weight." Our blogger even had the privilege to taste from the barrel. What a lucky man! He tasted and was delighted by the Château de Gaudou "Renaissance" 2004. "Who called the wine of Cahors 'rustic'". Durou doesn't agree!
